Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is monetization model: Speedometer GPS Running Track at free with in-app purchases against Speedometer's subscription. Speedometer GPS Running Track also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.8) and iOS requirement (16.0 vs 18.6). Speedometer's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (250 vs 13). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Speedometer sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days and Speedometer GPS Running Track sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Speedometer GPS Running Track holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Speedometer has 250 ratings behind it against 13, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 71% of Speedometer's written reviews are positive against 67% of Speedometer GPS Running Track's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
