Night Vision is an app that enables photo and video capture in complete darkness, leveraging the LiDAR scanner and TrueDepth camera technology on iPhone and iPad. Unlike other night vision apps, it uses the device's built-in depth sensors to scan the surroundings, delivering genuine night vision imagery that far surpasses the simulated effects of standard camera filters. Features: - Multiple camera modes: Freely switch between LiDAR, TrueDepth sensor, and standard camera modes for dark exploration, close-up viewing, and everyday shooting - Imaging Mode: Switch between 2D Plane, 3D Spatial, and Object Outlines to view depth in the way that best fits the scene - Photo and video capture: Take LiDAR night vision photos or record LiDAR night vision videos with one tap, then save them to the system Photos library - 3D Night Vision: Visualize spatial structure through point cloud imaging, with support for rotating and zooming to inspect 3D outlines in the dark - Distance measurement: Measure the distance between the target and your device in real time to better understand object position and spatial depth - Live streaming: Stream the night vision view in real time to Apple Watch, phones, tablets, and computers so you can monitor the scene anytime How It Works: In well-lit environments, the app combines imaging from the rear standard camera with LiDAR/TrueDepth sensors to enhance image quality. In complete darkness, only the LiDAR scanner or TrueDepth camera is used to generate images, ensuring clear night vision without the need for external light. Supported Devices: Compatible with all iPhones and iPads equipped with a LiDAR scanner or Face ID. After confirming the purchase, the subscription will automatically renew through your Apple account. A camera for dark places. On an iPhone or iPad with a LiDAR Scanner (and on Face ID devices through the front TrueDepth camera) it shows a depth view that works in total darkness. On any device it brightens the live camera with night-vision style looks and records video with the look applied. THIS IS NOT REAL NIGHT VISION An iPhone has no infrared or thermal sensor an app can use. Thermal, Infrared and Arctic are colour looks, not heat or infrared imaging. Without LiDAR the camera needs some light. WHAT YOU GET • Depth Map (LiDAR or TrueDepth): a colour view of distance, from near to about 5 m, that works in complete darkness • Normal mode on any device: the camera brightened, with 12 looks such as Night Vision, Phosphor, Arctic and Starlight • Video recording with the look applied, with sound (Normal mode), and silent video of the LiDAR and TrueDepth depth views • Distance to the centre of the frame in metres (Pro, LiDAR or TrueDepth only) • Intensity and brightness sliders, flashlight, 1x to 10x zoom, focus lock • Capture Log of your shots, shareable as text FREE AND PRO Free, with ads: 8 looks, 15 photos a day and video recording. Every Pro feature is open for the first 7 days. After that, free exports are limited to 2 saves or shares in total, at half size with a watermark. Pro (subscription or one-time purchase) removes ads and limits and adds 4 more looks, the distance readout, timer, scope overlays, manual ISO and shutter, before/after compare, photo stamp, custom watermark, photo import and a silent mode. GOOD TO KNOW • The LiDAR view needs an iPhone or iPad Pro with a LiDAR Scanner. Depth is low resolution: it shows shapes and distance, not faces or text. • In the depth views a photo is saved as the screen shows it, and the video is silent (no microphone feed). • Works offline. The internet is used only for ads and purchases. Terms of Use: https://masaapps360.com/inightvision/terms/ Privacy Policy: https://masaapps360.com/inightvision/privacy/

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is monetization model: LiDAR Camera at free with in-app purchases against Night Vision's subscription. LiDAR Camera also leads on iOS requirement (15.0 vs 18). Night Vision's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (517 vs 10). On price, rating, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Night Vision sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and LiDAR Camera sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

LiDAR Camera holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Night Vision has 517 ratings behind it against 10, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 35% of Night Vision's written reviews are positive against 25% of LiDAR Camera's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 25, 2026 and October 26, 2026 respectively.
