soft peal is a collection of little physics machines you can listen to. pendulums swing, rain falls, planets orbit, springs bob, arcs slide, cradles pass their swing down the line, bells ring in rounds, and gears draw. every strike plays a note. new in 2.0, gears: twenty-one spirographs that sing as they draw. a wheel rolls around its ring and the pens trace a pattern that takes pass after pass to close. it holds for a moment, erases itself, and begins again. choose how many pens and how fine the line, then save the finished drawing as an image for your wallpaper. every machine drifts apart into patterns, then lines back up, once per cycle. you can watch the whole journey or just leave it on and listen. forty-nine shapes across eight machines, and each one sounds different. the geometry is the music. tight passages strike louder. deep floors ring lower. nothing is random, and nothing ever falls out of tune. make it yours: - sixteen instruments, from glass and music box to gong and singing bowl, tunable a full octave up or down - ten color palettes, four backgrounds, and two styles: soft glow or crisp solid - glow, trails, speed, line weight, and how many balls, bells, or pens are in the machine made for winding down: - sleep timer that fades the sound out gently - plays through the silent switch, or not. your choice - mixes politely with your podcasts and music share what you make: - export any scene as a video with sound. rendered, not screen-recorded - "one loop" exports a perfect seamless loop for posting - save any gears drawing as a full-resolution image: just the ink, none of the machinery the triangle and the classic gear are free, with all seven bright instruments, both visual styles, and full control of motion and volume. one small purchase unlocks everything else: no subscription, no ads, no account, and the app collects no data at all.

Both are free to download. Berg Movement sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $29.90 per month and Soft Peal sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for Berg Movement against 5.0 for Soft Peal. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Berg Movement has 84 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 95% of Berg Movement's written reviews are positive against 100% of Soft Peal's.
Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
