Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: UCSC Menu at 100% against Palmetto's 43%. UCSC Menu also leads on iOS requirement (12.0 vs 14.0). Palmetto's advantage is rating (4.9 vs 4.2) and ads (none vs shown). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Palmetto holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Palmetto has 568 ratings behind it against 17, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of UCSC Menu's written reviews are positive against 43% of Palmetto's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
UCSC Menu ships an update fortnightly, Palmetto every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 11, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
