Know where your family members are without constantly checking your phone - you don't even need to open the app! R8dar lets you follow family members and friends in real time. See where they are, and what they are doing: driving, walking, running, cycling, e-biking, or simply staying put. Explore every place they have been. R8dar shows you detailed location and activity history, with an interactive timeline that lets you explore exactly where someone went, at what time, and what they were doing. Unlike other family location apps, you don’t need to create geofences around home, school, or work. R8dar automatically recognizes all of the places your family visits, and notifies you when they arrive and depart. “Mom departed Sprouts at 7:33 AM” “Junior arrived at school at 7:59 AM" “Dad departed work at 5:03 PM” Most days, you won’t even need to open the app. R8dar is the Goldilocks of family location apps. Find My isn't enough. No location history, no activity detection, and only a single manual place notification. The mainstream location apps have become too much, bloated with constant upsell pressure, ads, and features most families will never use. R8dar is just right. Everything you need, nothing you don't. No ads. No subscriptions. We’ll never share or sell your data. No email or phone number or other personally identifying information is required to use the app. Location history is stored on the R8dar servers. Otherwise it would be impossible for the app to share your location with family members. Your data can be permanently deleted in + -> Advanced Options -> Delete My R8dar Data. Note: R8dar on iPad is great for viewing the location of your friends and family, but unlike iPhones most iPads don't have GPS or cellular data connections, and most people don't carry their iPad with them anyway. If you have both an iPhone and an iPad just add both devices to the circle, with unique names, for example "Sebastian", and "Sebastian's iPad".

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Spill at 4.6 against R8dar's 2.3. Spill also leads on ratings volume (1.6K vs 3) and iOS requirement (16.0 vs 26.0). R8dar's advantage is monetization model (free vs ad-supported). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
