Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Documents at 4.5 against Portal's 4.0. Documents also leads on ratings volume (4.5K vs 2) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 10 months). Portal's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 72%) and price ($0.99 vs $4.99). On ads, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Documents costs $4.99 and Portal $0.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Documents holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Documents has 4.5K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 72% of Documents's written reviews are positive against 100% of Portal's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Documents ships an update every 2 months, Portal every 10 months. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
