Tunebook is now identical to the Tunebook for iPad application - don't buy both! I keep both on the App Store because it's not possible to provide an upgrade path to a single app without forcing some users to pay twice. Tunebook is a viewer for music expressed in the ABC format. ABC is a simple text-based notation for music and many thousands of tunes are freely available in this format on the Web. ABC is also supported by many music applications. See http://abc.sourceforge.net/ for more details on the ABC format. The format is primarily geared towards traditional folk music where tunes fit on a single page. Tunebook allows you to import files in the ABC format from websites into its database. You can then list the tunes, search for tunes by words in the title, by key and by time signature. Selecting a tune will display it in musical notation and allow you to play it in a variety of voices. You can also create tunebooks to organize your tune collection. Tunebook is based on the well-known abc2ps and abc2midi applications, and licensed under the GPL. The source code is available from http://www.jhlabs.com/tunebook.

Tradcara is your personal tune book for Irish traditional music. Build your repertoire, track what's session ready and what's gone rusty on every instrument, get tunes up to speed by ear, and put together the sets you play at sessions. Local-first and private by design. KNOW YOUR REPERTOIRE • For each instrument, mark tunes as known, learning, or want-to-learn. Known tunes return to your practice queue when they need refreshing. • Save your comfortable tempo and confidence. • Keep the setting you actually play. PRACTISE TUNES UP TO SPEED • Hear any tune played back from its ABC and learn it by ear. • Slow it right down, then bring it back up and loop the whole tune, or drill a section, a line, or a single bar until it's under your fingers. • Add a metronome with a simple or traditional feel to lock in your timing. • Log your practice as your repertoire grows. BUILD SETS FOR SESSIONS • Group tunes into the sets and set lists you play at sessions and classes. • Share sets and set lists by QR code, link or file. No account needed. • Publish a set list for other players to follow and share updates when it changes. A HUGE OFFLINE CATALOGUE TO DRAW FROM • Search thousands of traditional tunes, including reels, jigs, hornpipes and more. Completely offline. • Filter by type and key, sort by popularity, and add tunes straight to your book. • Add your own custom tunes and include them in the sets you build and share. • Paste or import a tune list, review matches, and continue later without losing your progress. YOURS, AND PRIVATE • No ads, tracking, analytics or account required. • Your tune book and practice data stay on your device unless you choose to export or share them. Back it all up and restore it whenever you need to. • Import a tune list from notes or files, or bring in your Tunebook, Sets and Bookmarks from The Session. Review matches and continue later without losing your progress. For fiddle, flute, whistle, concertina, accordion, banjo, pipes and every other instrument in the tradition.

Verdict
The clearest difference is update cadence: Tradcara at weekly against Tunebook's every 2 months. Tunebook's advantage is device support (3 vs 1) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 16.4). On price, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
