Lert is a private company providing emergency alerts. The first alert was sent Nov 2012. It was, and still is, the most advanced Txt alert service in New Zealand. The idea was presented to two different governments way before it took its current form, but both of them said no thanks. We believed the public deserved much better and so built the service anyway. We alert you to more than just Civil Defence situations, in fact, we have 15 or so different types of alerts. We have our own Meteorolgical Technician, marketer, programmer and networking facilitator and can provide a 24/7 service (and have done for tsunami alerts, several storms and the Kaikoura Quake). Normally we monitor during the night, much like Civil Defence. If something happens though, it's all hands to the pump.
