Lede Report
Read full descriptionHide full description
Lede watches the wires for the deaths of notable public figures and gives each the obituary they deserve. A new lede every day; some days, several. THE LEDE Each lede is two or three paragraphs of factual prose - the publication's reading of a life, warm, critical, or held in the middle. Always honest, never cruel. THE VIGIL The Vigil is where you reckon with a public life while it is still being lived. You are shown living public figures and render a considered verdict: pay respects, withhold respects, or pass. Your verdicts reach the editor in aggregate and shape the register of the lede to come. When that figure dies, the lede you helped shape earns its place in your journal. THE JOURNAL The journal is your lasting record - the reads you made on the Vigil and the ledes you chose to keep, with your own notes alongside. WHAT LEDE DOES NOT DO Lede does not write about ordinary people, and it does not write about grief. The notable dead are public figures; their record is the public record. Lede does not allow comments, does not score lives against each other, and does not predict who will die next.
