Field Strength Estimator vs TouchMix
Price, ratings, monetisation and update history for both apps, side by side — with what reviewers say about each.
Field Strength Estimator
This app estimates field strength and power flux density based on transmitted power, frequency, and antenna gain. It calculates received power at a receiver and automatically converts power flux density to electric and magnetic field strength. It provides theoretical best-case values, not accounting for real-world propagation impairments.
- Calculates power flux density
- Estimates electric and magnetic field strength
- Calculates received power
- Considers antenna gain and transmitted power
- Assumes theoretical best-case conditions

The program Field Strength and Power Estimator calculates power flux density, electric and magnetic field strength from the transmitted power, associated frequency and gain of the transmitting antenna. Additionally the input power into a receiver with 50 Ohm input impedance is calculated from the gain of the receiving antenna. The program automatically converts power flux density into electric and magnetic field strength. Depending on the transmitted frequency, various parameters influence the received power and field strength, such as non-line-of-sight propagation, changes in polarisation, reflections, and multi-path propagation affect the true values. Additionally antenna VSWR and cable losses have to be considered. The program Field Strength and Power Estimator does not consider these impairments. It assumes conditions, that are close to the best possible theoretical values. This is why we say the program is an Estimator, not a Calculator. TouchMix-8/16 Control is an app for iPad, iPad mini, iPhone and iPod touch that provides wireless control of QSC TouchMix-8 and TouchMix-16 digital sound reinforcement mixers. Visit http://www.qsc.com for more information. The app is not intended to perform any audio mixing or processing tasks on its own. When run on the iPad and iPad mini, the TouchMix Control app closely follows the operational paradigm of the mixers. The iPad and the mixer GUI operate independently so it is possible for the iPad to act as an additional user interface that can display and control a set of functions completely different from those being controlled by the mixer’s screen and hardware. An alternate operation mode – Follow Mixer – is also available. With Follow Mixer engaged, the iPad follows the fader selection on the mixer. Touch a fader on the mixer and the iPad will display that channel’s Overview, EQ, Compressor, Sends or Gate screen. Touch a parameter on the iPad and the mixer’s rotary control will adjust it – or just drag on the iPad screen. When used without an actual TouchMix, the app acts as a demonstration of the mixer GUI and functionality but does not control audio in any way. On the iPhone, the TouchMix Control app functions as a personal stage monitor mix control with the option to also remotely operate the mixer’s record and playback features as well as programmable user buttons. To prevent inadvertent adjustment of controls, the mixer operator may allow or restrict access to selected functions on a per-device basis. Features - Input channel processing (4-band PEQ, variable high & Low-cut filters, gates, compressor) - Output channel processing (1/3 octave GEQ, 6-band PEQ, variable high & Low-cut filters, anti-feedback filters and wizard, delay) - Real Time Analyzer (RTA) - Select Simple or Advanced mode - Displays channel and output level meters - Channel and output levels - Effects and aux (monitor) send levels - Select input presets from extensive library - Select and control 4 simultaneous effects - Input and output mutes and cues - Configure and control DCA and Mute groups - Multi-track recorder arm, playback and transport - Includes TouchMix Info system, built-in reference guide. - And more Requirements - iPad, iPad mini, iPhone, iPod touch running iOS 16.5 or later. - QSC TouchMix-8 or TouchMix-16 with version 3.0 or higher firmware installed. - QSC TouchMix-8 or TouchMix-16 with supplied Wi-Fi adaptor installed or connected to a network via USB-to-Ethernet adaptor. - Note that controlling a mixer with multiple iOS devices running different versions of the app is not recommended. - QSC, LLC Website TouchMix Support Application License Agreement.

Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Field Strength Estimator at 100% against TouchMix's 29%. Field Strength Estimator also leads on rating (4.3 vs 2.7) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 12.0). TouchMix's advantage is update cadence (every 3 months vs every 13 months) and ratings volume (69 vs 4). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Field Strength Estimator holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 2.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: TouchMix has 69 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 100% of Field Strength Estimator's written reviews are positive against 29% of TouchMix's.
Field Strength Estimator ships an update every 13 months, TouchMix every 3 months. Both last shipped on October 23, 2026.
