Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: LA Times at 4.6 against NICKLpass's 3.4. LA Times also leads on ratings volume (20K vs 12) and chart position (#19 vs unranked). NICKLpass's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 3) and ads (none vs shown). On price, review sentiment, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

LA Times holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: LA Times has 20K ratings behind it against 12, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 29% of LA Times's written reviews are positive against 33% of NICKLpass's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

LA Times ships an update every 4 weeks, NICKLpass weekly. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
