Verdict
The clearest difference is price: SyncOnSet 5.0 at Free against Calculators XL's $2.99. SyncOnSet 5.0 also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 25 months) and ratings volume (61 vs 4). Calculators XL's advantage is rating (2.0 vs 1.7) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 15.1). On review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

SyncOnSet 5.0 is free to download; Calculators XL costs $2.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Calculators XL holds the better App Store score, 2.0 against 1.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SyncOnSet 5.0 has 61 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of Calculators XL's written reviews are positive against 3% of SyncOnSet 5.0's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Calculators XL ships an update every 25 months, SyncOnSet 5.0 monthly. The most recent releases landed on June 5, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
