Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is price: Maple Calculator at Free against Mechanix's $2.99. Maple Calculator also leads on update cadence (every 2 months vs every 9 months) and ratings volume (1.5K vs 1). Mechanix's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 3) and rating (5.0 vs 4.7). On ads and device support there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Mechanix holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Maple Calculator has 1.5K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 54% of Mechanix's written reviews are positive against 62% of Maple Calculator's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Mechanix ships an update every 9 months, Maple Calculator every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on September 29, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
