Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is review sentiment: PBS Receiver at 100% against TalkingClock's 28%. PBS Receiver also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 11 months vs every 37 months). TalkingClock's advantage is rating (4.5 vs 4.0) and ratings volume (146 vs 1). On price and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

TalkingClock holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: TalkingClock has 146 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 28% of TalkingClock's written reviews are positive against 100% of PBS Receiver's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

TalkingClock ships an update every 37 months, PBS Receiver every 11 months. The most recent releases landed on October 5, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
