Ever had to read through a an email, book or an article on the web, but felt like it took ages to read through it all? Normally your brain will attempt to pronounce words you read, which is called subvocalization or internal speech. Flash Reader removes this limitation by showing you words so fast that your brain doesn't have time to subvocalize, but still allows you to retain everything you've read, by something called RSVP. Whether it's light reading, or complicated business emails, training your eyes to read faster couldn't be easier, while your reading skill and comprehension will keep getting better and better with each article you finish. 3rd Party Support: • Pocket, Instapaper & Dropbox support* • Open & import eBooks files and docs such as DOC, RTF, TXT, PDF, EPUB, DOCX, AZW (Amazon Kindle .AZW files only), MOBI and ODT (OpenDocument) files* Note: Documents need to be DRM-free (no copy protection) and have no OCR (scanned) elements. Based on the feedback we receive, we'll add and modify the features as much as we can. *Please note: Flash Reader DOES NOT have advertisements of any kind. Services such as Instapaper, Pocket, website article saving and certain file-specific document conversions have limits and might require the Flash Reader Pro upgrade, which is a permanent one-time payment that unlocks all features of the app. Some services (including PDF and ePub importing, as well as Microsoft Office files like DOCX) require an active internet connection when importing. Also note that Flash Reader does not have voice support, so no text-to-speech or anything like that.

Readrrr uses Rapid Serial Visual Presentation to show words one at a time in the same spot, and a natural voice can read each word aloud as it appears. Your eyes don't have to jump across lines, so you don't lose your place and read faster. Seeing and hearing every word at the same time also keeps your mind from drifting. Start at your normal pace and speed up as it gets comfortable. A Readrrr subscription or one-time purchase includes everything below: RSVP READER Every word has one letter marked in red for your eyes to rest on, so you never have to look for where the word starts. You can change the speed at any time. NARRATION Pick a voice and it reads along in sync with every word at any speed. The voice runs on your phone, so it works offline. SHORT READS Non-fiction you can finish in 10 to 20 minutes, on topics like history, health, science and economics. Each one is written to be read in Readrrr and sits in a collection with related reads. New ones come out every week, and you can suggest a topic. READ ANYTHING Import PDFs and EPUBs, send an article from Safari with one tap, paste text, or scan pages from a paper book. APP LOCKING Pick the apps that take up your day. Starting at 4 am they stay locked until you've read your daily word goal. Every day you hit it adds to your streak. If you really need one of them, you can unlock for 10 minutes once a day. HIGHLIGHTS Save any passage while you read. Readrrr sorts your highlights into themes and brings old ones back to you in the app and in a Home Screen widget, so you don't forget what you read. STATS Track your reading speed, words read and streak as they grow. SYNC Your library, reading position and stats stay in sync across your devices. SUBSCRIPTION Readrrr requires a subscription or a one-time purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Verdict
The clearest difference is monetization model: Flash Reader at free with in-app purchases against Readrrr's subscription. Flash Reader also leads on review sentiment (49% vs 29%) and ratings volume (162 vs 22). Readrrr's advantage is rating (4.6 vs 4.2) and update cadence (fortnightly vs monthly). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Flash Reader sells 5 one-off in-app purchases and Readrrr sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Readrrr holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Flash Reader has 162 ratings behind it against 22, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 49% of Flash Reader's written reviews are positive against 29% of Readrrr's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Flash Reader ships an update monthly, Readrrr fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 18, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
