Verdict
The clearest difference is price: Fileplay at Free against AVPlayerHD's $2.99. Fileplay also leads on rating (4.6 vs 4.1) and ratings volume (4.2K vs 215). AVPlayerHD's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (68% vs 48%). On in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Fileplay is free to download; AVPlayerHD costs $2.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Fileplay holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Fileplay has 4.2K ratings behind it against 215, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 68% of AVPlayerHD's written reviews are positive against 48% of Fileplay's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
AVPlayerHD ships an update every 3 weeks, Fileplay every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
