Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: RTÉ Player at 4.7 against SpeedQuizzing's 3.2. RTÉ Player also leads on ratings volume (6.3K vs 57). SpeedQuizzing's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
RTÉ Player holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: RTÉ Player has 6.3K ratings behind it against 57, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 65% of SpeedQuizzing's written reviews are positive against 46% of RTÉ Player's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
SpeedQuizzing ships an update every 3 weeks, RTÉ Player every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
