VIRFuel vs EASA FTL Calc
Price, ratings, monetisation and update history for both apps, side by side — with what reviewers say about each.
VIRFuel
This app calculates fuel and weight for Boeing 787 and Airbus A350/330 aircraft, using Sabre flight plan data. It supports metric tonnes and Virgin Atlantic SOPs, allowing for updates with desired loads and actual figures from the loadsheet. It also provides fuel uplift calculations in Litres and USG, and can display aircraft fuel book data.

VIRFuel is a fuel and weight calculation application designed for Boeing 787, Airbus A350/330 operations using the Sabre flight plan. The application is in metric tonnes and conforms to SOPs used for Virgin Atlantic operations. Fuel and weight data is inserted from the front page of the flight plan (the 'plan figures') and can then be updated with desired loads and actual figures from the final ZFW/loadsheet. Changes in zero-fuel weight calculate updates to trip fuel and suggest a new ramp fuel. Alternatively a manually entered ramp fuel, touchdown fuel or required extra fuel at destination will calculate updates to trip fuel and ramp fuel. At each stage a take-off weight will be updated and TODC/OPT weights calculated (a TODC buffer of 1T is used). For near maximum weight plans, Std and Aft CG RTOW weights can be provided to calculate a maximum possible ZFW & Ramp fuel combination. Fuel uplift calculations in Litres and USG with commonly used density units are available to ensure an indicated versus calculated fuel load within +/-1.5%. A representation of the Aircraft Fuel Book can be shown for the easy entry or cross-checking of log book entries. Finally, flight plan waypoint fuel checks can be updated for changes in trip fuel burn. Internal cross-checking is performed and aircraft type limits can be set using the application settings menu or from the plan input page. Engineers have the option to skip directly to the fuel uplift page. A 'swipe-to-reveal' calculator has time addition and unit conversion functions. A list of favourite airports can be maintained for which TAF and Metar reports can be downloaded from the NOAA ADDS service. The reports are crosschecked for format errors, download errors and time validity. A colour coded system will highlight wind/visibility/weather/cloud fields that may have operationally significant values. RMK fields are not comprehensively scanned for all decodes and runway states or local variations in format are not necessarily decoded.
EASA FTL Calc
This app calculates flight time limitations for cockpit and cabin crew based on EASA OPS rules. It accounts for various factors like duty periods, rest times, time zone differences, and disruptive schedules, simplifying complex calculations for pilots and cabin attendants.
- Cockpit and cabin limits calculation
- Flight duty period calculation
- Rest time calculation
- Time zone management via airport selection
- Support for disruptive schedules
- Roster import options

EASA FTL Calc helps flight and cabin crew calculate and monitor: • Cockpit and cabin crew limits • Actual and maximum Flight Duty Periods (FDP) • Latest on-block times • Duty Periods (DP) • Actual and minimum rest periods • Acclimatisation status • Commander’s discretion • Planned reduced rest • Disruptive schedules • Required local nights at home base • Extended recovery rest periods • Cumulative duty times for 7, 14 and 28 days • Monthly duty times The app takes into account: • Standby, airport standby and airport duty • Extended cabin crew FDP due to earlier reporting times • Delayed reporting • In-flight rest for cockpit and cabin crew based on the applicable rules • Split duty • FDP extensions • Planned reduced rest • Positioning • Time-zone differences • Company-specific minimum rest periods • Your assigned home base • Back-to-back operations You do not need to calculate or enter time zones manually: • Simply select an airport from the database • The time zone is determined automatically based on the airport and date For each rotation, you only need to select: • The airport where the rotation begins • The rest location after each duty day • The next reporting airport is automatically set to the previous rest location EASA FTL Calc is designed as a duty logbook, not as a flight logbook: • You do not need to enter every individual block time • The app does not manage cumulative block-hour limits • Imported flights may still be displayed for reference Separate cockpit and cabin calculations: • Reporting times may differ • In-flight rest rules are different • Your own limits are calculated using all available information • Calculations for other crew members may be limited because less information about their previous and subsequent rotations is available Rotation management: Rotations are stored automatically and displayed in a dedicated overview. The overview includes: • Flight Duty Periods • Duty periods • Rest periods • Separate calculations for cockpit and cabin crew XML import: • BA rosters only RosterBuster import: • Direct import from the server Direct import from other apps and websites: • NASImport • CrewLounge CONNECT • RosterworX • MyRoster for Crew by Lumabyte — sadly no longer available eCrew AIMS Dashboard import: If your roster can be downloaded as a .txt or .csv file, it can be opened directly in EASA FTL Calc. Because AIMS can be configured differently by each airline, occasional compatibility issues may occur. In many cases, these can be resolved. Calendar import: Roster data can also be imported from your calendar. Because calendar entries can use different formats and naming conventions, occasional compatibility issues may occur. In many cases, these issues can be resolved.

Verdict
The clearest difference is price: VIRFuel at Free against EASA FTL Calc's $6.99. VIRFuel also leads on review sentiment (94% vs 79%) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). EASA FTL Calc's advantage is rating (3.8 vs 3.0) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 9 months). On ratings volume, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

VIRFuel is free to download; EASA FTL Calc costs $6.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
EASA FTL Calc holds the better App Store score, 3.8 against 3.0. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 2 and 5 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 94% of VIRFuel's written reviews are positive against 79% of EASA FTL Calc's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
VIRFuel ships an update every 9 months, EASA FTL Calc every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
