Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Rotary Events at 4.8 against BoardEffect's 3.5. BoardEffect's advantage is update cadence (every 2 months vs every 4 months) and ratings volume (48 vs 4). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Rotary Events holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 3.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: BoardEffect has 48 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 58% of BoardEffect's written reviews are positive against 50% of Rotary Events's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
BoardEffect ships an update every 2 months, Rotary Events every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
