Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Greenfield Recorder at none against MassLive.com's 16. Greenfield Recorder also leads on review sentiment (45% vs 19%). MassLive.com's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 10 months) and ratings volume (6.1K vs 311). On price, rating, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MassLive.com sells 14 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Greenfield Recorder asks for nothing beyond the download.
MassLive.com holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MassLive.com has 6.1K ratings behind it against 311, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 19% of MassLive.com's written reviews are positive against 45% of Greenfield Recorder's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
MassLive.com ships an update every 3 weeks, Greenfield Recorder every 10 months. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
