Saved palettes sync through iCloud on iOS. Your current unsaved draft stays on this device. Color readings are approximations and depend on your camera and lighting. Calibration can compensate for a color cast under the same light; it does not guarantee an exact paint or print match.

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Color Identifier at 4.1 against ColorPicker's 3.0. Color Identifier also leads on update cadence (every 4 days vs every 2 months) and ratings volume (187 vs 1). ColorPicker's advantage is monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and review sentiment (32% vs 5%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ColorPicker sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Color Identifier sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Color Identifier holds the better App Store score, 4.1 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Color Identifier has 187 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 32% of ColorPicker's written reviews are positive against 5% of Color Identifier's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

ColorPicker ships an update every 2 months, Color Identifier every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on November 5, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
