Travesty - where new words appear! Kick start your creative process! Write your own non-sensical novel in the style of your favorite author! Generate reports for work in no time at all! Create a new and totally unique baby name! Before ChatGPT, before AI, back in 1984, there was Travesty. Published in Byte magazine in 1984, Travesty used an input text to generate output that had “a haunting plausibility”. Now available in IOS, this new Travesty analyzes an input text for letter frequencies and sequences, and uses that analysis to form new words that match the original's sequences. It uses a user-selectable "level" to ensure that a certain number of adjacent letters present in the input will be generated in the output. When set to a high level, the new text has a number of gibberish words; at a low level, the same words from the input text appear almost untouched. Choose one of Travesty’s canned texts, or copy/paste your own text, and Travesty instantly creates its version which may contain a previously unknown word or a new thought. This program is dedicated to the original Travesty authors, Hugh Kenner and Joseph O'Rourke.

Verdict
The clearest difference is price: FlashArch Player at Free against Travesty's $0.99. FlashArch Player also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 39 months) and ratings volume (49 vs 1). Travesty's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 3.8) and iOS requirement (13.2 vs 15.6). On review sentiment, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

FlashArch Player is free to download; Travesty costs $0.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Travesty holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: FlashArch Player has 49 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Travesty's written reviews are positive against 54% of FlashArch Player's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Travesty ships an update every 39 months, FlashArch Player monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 5, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
