RetirePlan is an iPad app that helps you answer all your questions about your retirement. If you have questions about your retirement finances, this is the app to answer them. When can I retire? How much do I need to save every year? How much money will I get every year in my retirement? How long will my money hold out in my retirement? In just a few seconds you can enter your data and assumptions and the graph will update to show you if your plan will work. If you have more time to spend you can enter as much detail as you want to refine your plan. The sliders give you an easy way to see what different values will do to your plan. Need to enter a value outside the slider range? press the amount and a calculator will pop up to let you enter whatever number you need. The slider range will update automatically. Bring up the spreadsheet to see all the details for every year of the plan, or check out the Monte Carlo simulator to see how likely your plan is to succeed! Email your results. Use the settings to add your spouse, include or remove Social Security, and show or hide inflation and interest rates. Use the + button to add a pension, send a child to college, large upcoming expenses, add additional rates of return and retirement income assumptions. Include Tax assumptions to get an even more accurate picture of your future.

You may have retirement savings in taxable accounts (cash, investments), tax-deferred accounts (Traditional 401k, Traditional IRA), and tax-free accounts (Roth 401k, Roth IRA). Find out when you will be able to retire based on your financial circumstances. **App Highlights** * The "When Can I Retire Pro" app calculates your retirement age by separating out your retirement savings in taxable accounts (cash, investments) and tax-advantaged accounts (Traditional, Roth) as certain tax-advantaged retirement savings cannot be withdrawn without a penalty until you reach the age 59 1/2. * The app factors in the retirement age calculation the taxes you are required to pay on withdrawals from your tax-deferred accounts (Traditional 401k, Traditional IRA). * The app takes into account you are required to make minimum withdrawals from your tax-deferred accounts (Traditional 401k, Traditional IRA) from the age of 72 onwards. * Additionally, this app helps you with an effective strategy on the order in which you can withdraw your retirement assets during your retirement years when you have savings in taxable, tax-deferred, and tax-free accounts. The retirement withdrawals are made first from your taxable accounts, then from your tax-deferred accounts, and finally from your tax-free accounts. * This app lays out a clear picture of your finances with the pre-retirement plan and post-retirement plan. * You can email your pre-retirement plan and post-retirement plan in tabular and graphical views to yourself or others from within the app. * This app saves your inputs across the launches upon successful retirement age calculation. * You can share the app via email, Facebook, or Twitter from within the app.

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is price: When Can I Retire Pro at Free against RetirePlan's $4.99. When Can I Retire Pro also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 15.1). RetirePlan's advantage is rating (4.3 vs 3.7) and chart position (#84 vs unranked). On review sentiment, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

RetirePlan holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: RetirePlan has 123 ratings behind it against 24, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 74% of RetirePlan's written reviews are positive against 80% of When Can I Retire Pro's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

RetirePlan ships an update every 2 months, When Can I Retire Pro every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
