Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: ZDF at 4.7 against Deutsche Witze XXL's 4.1. ZDF also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 1) and ads (none vs shown). Deutsche Witze XXL's advantage is review sentiment (77% vs 67%) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 17.0). On price, update cadence and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Deutsche Witze XXL sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. ZDF asks for nothing beyond the download.
ZDF holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ZDF has 9.8K ratings behind it against 17, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of ZDF's written reviews are positive against 77% of Deutsche Witze XXL's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
ZDF ships an update every 3 weeks, Deutsche Witze XXL monthly. The most recent releases landed on November 8, 2026 and November 1, 2026 respectively.
