Verdict

The call

Mountain Project and Shredhead both sit at 4.6 stars, but that hides the real split: 80% of Shredhead's written reviews are positive against 36% of Mountain Project's. Shredhead also leads on update cadence (weekly vs every 3 weeks). Mountain Project's advantage is ratings volume (4.6K vs 8). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Mountain Project holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Mountain Project has 4.6K ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 36% of Mountain Project's written reviews are positive against 80% of Shredhead's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Mountain Project ships an update every 3 weeks, Shredhead weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 2, 2026 respectively.
