Verdict
The clearest difference is price: Midtown Comics at Free against Meanwhile's $4.99. Midtown Comics also leads on update cadence (every 2 months vs every 12 months) and ratings volume (1.4K vs 10). Meanwhile's advantage is review sentiment (79% vs 53%) and chart position (#173 vs unranked). On ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Midtown Comics is free to download; Meanwhile costs $4.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Midtown Comics holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Midtown Comics has 1.4K ratings behind it against 10, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 79% of Meanwhile's written reviews are positive against 53% of Midtown Comics's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Meanwhile ships an update every 12 months, Midtown Comics every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
