RadioactivityCounter This application is a real working radioactivity counter without any extra hardware needed ! It will turn your phone into a Geiger Müller Counter to measure radioactivity after proper calibration. ** Attention after upgrading iOS to a higher iOS do the calibrate again, as camera data properties might have changed ** Disclaimer: The type of radiation picked up by the camera can be dangerous/detrimental to the user's health as well as cause damage to the device. Important note: The camera sensor can measure gamma radiation (CS137 for example) and some beta radiation (depends on the energy if the beta rays can pass through the plastic parts - for example H3 or K14 are weak sources). It cannot measure alpha rays (PO210) For AM241 though its primary a Alpha source also some gamma radiation is emitted and might be detectable for a longer measurement. Please check our homepages for examples and hints on how to measure. We did calibrations with several iPod2*, IPhone 3GS*, iPhone 4*, iPhone 4S, iPhone5, iPhone 5S iPhone 6, 6s and iPad 2, iPad 3* devices at the Helmholtz Research Centre, Munich. we used a CS137 test source from 10 µGy/h till 1 Sv/h for each of the phones we had. The values are stored for a rough start on the application (all devices differ a little bit). For precise professional measurement the devices must be adjusted to the sensor which is possible with the expert setup. For personal use the defaults should be sufficient (please give us feedback). * = Attention some phone might not be compatible due the new version of iOS or missing features (gps precision using sim cards)- please try to use an older rev of the App which should be available according to my settings (1.3).

> Detect Invisible Fields: Find the ElectroMagnetic Fields around you in seconds > Pro-Grade Precision: High-accuracy Magnetic Field Analyzer & Gauss Meter with Advanced Signal Stabilization. > Record, Analyze & Export: track trends with interactive data charts and save detailed logs for professional analysis. Check out the areas where you work (desk, meeting rooms), where you sleep (bed), where you relax (couch, living room) and find the levels of EMF you are exposed to. Also use the app to measure the fields emitted by your appliances (computer, fridge, speaker, phone...). PROFESSIONAL MAGNETIC FIELD ANALYZER & GAUSS METER: Discover the invisible magnetic world around you. Using your device’s internal magnetometer, the app provides a comprehensive look at the electromagnetic fields (ELF) generated by electronic devices, wiring, and ferromagnetic materials. NEW PROFESSIONAL FEATURES: - 3-Axis Vector Analysis: Real-time $x, y,$ and $z$ coordinate tracking for precise field directionality. - Interactive History Graphs: Visualize time evolution with high-resolution charts that track spikes and trends. - Clean Signal Mode (LPF): Toggle an advanced Low-Pass Filter to stabilize readings and remove sensor jitter for professional-grade clarity - Save & Export Logs: Record your sessions and export data for further analysis in external software. VERSATILE USE CASES: Electronics Inspection: Measure the magnetic footprint of computers, speakers, and home appliances. Metal Detection: Locate ferromagnetic objects like iron pipes or steel studs behind walls. Interference Calibration: Find the "quietest" zones for sensitive electronic equipment or audio setups. USER EXPECTATIONS & DISCLOSURE: This app is designed as a sophisticated utility for detecting Magnetic Fields (ELF). What it detects: Magnetic flux from magnets, ferrous metals, and the low-frequency electromagnetic fields emitted by electronic components, power supplies, and speakers. What it does NOT detect: This app is not a radio frequency (RF) scanner. It cannot detect Wi-Fi signals, Bluetooth, 5G cellular radiation, or microwave leakage. DISCLAIMER: - This app is intended for educational and utility purposes. It is not a substitute for certified industrial or scientific equipment. It does not provide medical advice or guarantee "safe zones" in a clinical sense. This app does not guarantee exact measures as other fields can interfere with the compass inside your phone, which is used to detect the fields. Verdict
The clearest difference is price: EMF Radiation Detector Reader at Free against RadioactivityCounter's $4.99. EMF Radiation Detector Reader also leads on rating (4.5 vs 3.1) and ratings volume (4.7K vs 10). RadioactivityCounter's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 2) and ads (none vs shown). On device support there is nothing between them.

EMF Radiation Detector Reader is free to download; RadioactivityCounter costs $4.99 up front. EMF Radiation Detector Reader sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per 7 days. RadioactivityCounter asks for nothing beyond the download.
EMF Radiation Detector Reader holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: EMF Radiation Detector Reader has 4.7K ratings behind it against 10, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 68% of RadioactivityCounter's written reviews are positive against 53% of EMF Radiation Detector Reader's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
RadioactivityCounter ships an update every 15 months, EMF Radiation Detector Reader every 7 months. The most recent releases landed on October 5, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
