Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Complex Number Cruncher at 4.3 against Ref Tools's 3.9. Complex Number Cruncher also leads on iOS requirement (10.3 vs 15.0). Ref Tools's advantage is ratings volume (52 vs 4). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Complex Number Cruncher holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Ref Tools has 52 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 58% of Ref Tools's written reviews are positive against 50% of Complex Number Cruncher's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Ref Tools ships an update every 5 weeks, Complex Number Cruncher every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and September 20, 2026 respectively.
