Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: FREE VPN APP at 92% against Encrypt.me's 52%. FREE VPN APP also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). Encrypt.me's advantage is ratings volume (5.8K vs 87) and rating (4.4 vs 4.2). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Encrypt.me sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and FREE VPN APP sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $0.29 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Encrypt.me holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Encrypt.me has 5.8K ratings behind it against 87, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 52% of Encrypt.me's written reviews are positive against 92% of FREE VPN APP's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Encrypt.me ships an update every 2 months, FREE VPN APP every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
