Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Evnt Central at 100% against RTÉ Player's 46%. Evnt Central also leads on ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). RTÉ Player's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 3.0) and ratings volume (6.3K vs 2). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
RTÉ Player holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: RTÉ Player has 6.3K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 46% of RTÉ Player's written reviews are positive against 100% of Evnt Central's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
RTÉ Player ships an update every 3 weeks, Evnt Central fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
