Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: RTÉ Player at none against Red~Handed's 1. RTÉ Player also leads on ratings volume (6.3K vs 1) and device support (4 vs 2). Red~Handed's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and rating (5.0 vs 4.7). On price, update cadence and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Red~Handed sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. RTÉ Player asks for nothing beyond the download.
Red~Handed holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: RTÉ Player has 6.3K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
RTÉ Player ships an update every 3 weeks, Red~Handed every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
