Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: The Training Notebook at 43% against Workout Notebook's 0%. The Training Notebook also leads on ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (52 vs 5). Workout Notebook's advantage is rating (4.8 vs 3.1) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 6 weeks). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. The Training Notebook sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $9.00 per month and Workout Notebook sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Workout Notebook holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 3.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: The Training Notebook has 52 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 43% of The Training Notebook's written reviews are positive against 0% of Workout Notebook's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
The Training Notebook ships an update every 6 weeks, Workout Notebook every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on July 4, 2026 and September 7, 2026 respectively.
