Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is review sentiment: MapleRead CX at 62% against iPublishCentral Reader's 19%. iPublishCentral Reader's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and rating (3.7 vs 3.4). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MapleRead CX sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. iPublishCentral Reader asks for nothing beyond the download.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

iPublishCentral Reader holds the better App Store score, 3.7 against 3.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: iPublishCentral Reader has 156 ratings behind it against 24, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 19% of iPublishCentral Reader's written reviews are positive against 62% of MapleRead CX's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

iPublishCentral Reader ships an update every 2 months, MapleRead CX every 5 weeks. Both last shipped on October 5, 2026.
