Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Open Charge Map at 5.0 against evway's 1.7. Open Charge Map also leads on ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). evway's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 3 months) and review sentiment (31% vs 18%). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Open Charge Map holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 1.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: evway has 6 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 18% of Open Charge Map's written reviews are positive against 31% of evway's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Open Charge Map ships an update every 3 months, evway every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and November 2, 2026 respectively.
