Polyphonic Tuner
Read full descriptionHide full description
PolyTuner is a focused, responsive tuner for guitar and bass. Pluck one open string for precise tuning, or play several strings together for a quick polyphonic check. Native audio analysis identifies each configured string independently, showing which strings are flat, sharp, or in tune. For finer adjustments, switch to the phase strobe tuner and watch the motion slow as the string approaches its target. PolyTuner supports Standard, Drop D, Double Drop D, and E-flat Standard guitar tunings. Bass players can choose Standard tuning for 4-, 5-, or 6-string instruments, including low B0 and high C3. Choose from Classic, Precision Scale, and Minimal Rail displays. Each view provides clear pitch direction, cents, frequency, and tuning confidence. Your instrument, tuning, and display preferences are saved automatically. To begin, select your instrument and tuning, tap Start Listening, and play one or more open strings. PolyTuner displays a separate reading for every configured string so you can quickly see what needs adjustment. For precision tuning, open the Strobe Tuner and pluck one string at a time. Leftward motion indicates a flat string, rightward motion indicates a sharp string, and a nearly stationary display means the string is in tune. Microphone audio is analyzed directly on your device. PolyTuner does not upload your instrument audio for pitch detection. Whether you are checking a guitar before rehearsal, setting up an alternate tuning, or dialing in the low B on a bass, PolyTuner keeps the process clear and efficient.

Verdict
BandHelper and Polyphonic Tuner are too close to call on the numbers: across 5 compared parameters — price, ads, in-app purchases and device support among them — neither pulls far enough ahead to decide it. What separates them is feature set and interface, not measurable difference.

Both are free to download. BandHelper sells 18 one-off in-app purchases and Polyphonic Tuner sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
