Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Riverway at 4.2 against ANC Explorer's 3.0. Riverway also leads on update cadence (every 2 days vs every 2 months) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 17.0). ANC Explorer's advantage is review sentiment (38% vs 0%) and ratings volume (56 vs 5). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Riverway holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ANC Explorer has 56 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 38% of ANC Explorer's written reviews are positive against 0% of Riverway's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
ANC Explorer ships an update every 2 months, Riverway every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
