Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is price: GPS Speedometer at Free against Solocator's $0.99. GPS Speedometer also leads on rating (4.5 vs 4.3) and ratings volume (5.5K vs 422). Solocator's advantage is review sentiment (57% vs 24%) and chart position (#2 vs #64). On update cadence, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

GPS Speedometer is free to download; Solocator costs $0.99 up front. Solocator sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and GPS Speedometer sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

GPS Speedometer holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: GPS Speedometer has 5.5K ratings behind it against 422, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 57% of Solocator's written reviews are positive against 24% of GPS Speedometer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 22, 2026 respectively.
