Verdict
The clearest difference is monetization model: BlackVue Legacy at free against CL7's free with in-app purchases. BlackVue Legacy also leads on review sentiment (28% vs 15%) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). CL7's advantage is rating (2.3 vs 2.0) and ratings volume (76 vs 14). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
CL7 holds the better App Store score, 2.3 against 2.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: CL7 has 76 ratings behind it against 14, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 28% of BlackVue Legacy's written reviews are positive against 15% of CL7's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
BlackVue Legacy ships an update every 3 weeks, CL7 every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
