Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Mood at 4.4 against Mood Tracker Diary's 3.5. Mood also leads on ratings volume (92 vs 2) and iOS requirement (15.6 vs 26.0). Mood Tracker Diary's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (monthly vs every 8 months). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Mood sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Mood Tracker Diary sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Mood holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 3.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Mood has 92 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 57% of Mood's written reviews are positive against 67% of Mood Tracker Diary's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Mood ships an update every 8 months, Mood Tracker Diary monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and September 28, 2026 respectively.
