Urai writes Tamil in three scripts, and converts freely between them. ą®ą®°ąÆ ā the Tamil word for text, and for the commentary tradition that ran alongside it for two thousand years. THREE SCRIPTS, ONE TEXT ⢠Modern Tamil ā the script in use today ⢠Tamili ā Tamil Brahmi, the script of the Sangam-era potsherds and cave inscriptions at Keezhadi, Kodumanal and Arikamedu ⢠Latin transliteration ā an ISO 15919-inspired romanisation Pick a script from the tab strip and your text is converted into it. There is no separate convert step, and no guessing about what you meant to type: the tab says which script you are writing, so every conversion runs in a known direction. CONVERSIONS THAT COME BACK INTACT Tamil to Tamili and back returns exactly what you started with. So does Tamil to transliteration and back ā including the word-final pulli, which is where most converters quietly lose a letter. Move between all three as often as you like; the text does not decay. BUILT FOR THE SCRIPT ⢠Tamil, Tamili and Latin each rendered in a font chosen for it ⢠Adjustable size and line spacing, because Tamil needs more leading than Latin does ⢠Live counts ā characters, words, lines, paragraphs ā counted as letters rather than as Unicode scalars ⢠Your text is saved automatically and restored when you return ⢠Copy the whole buffer, or share it anywhere the system can send text FOR WHOM For anyone reading Tamil epigraphy, teaching or studying the history of the script, setting a name or an inscription in Tamil Brahmi, or simply curious about how Tamil was written two thousand years ago. Urai is a text editor first. It collects no data, contains no advertising, and requires no account.
