Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: ONC Forest Ranger at 4.7 against A24's 3.6. ONC Forest Ranger also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 117) and update cadence (every 5 days vs every 4 weeks). A24's advantage is review sentiment (22% vs 0%) and ratings volume (204 vs 6). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. A24 sells 116 one-off in-app purchases. ONC Forest Ranger asks for nothing beyond the download.
ONC Forest Ranger holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: A24 has 204 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 22% of A24's written reviews are positive against 0% of ONC Forest Ranger's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
A24 ships an update every 4 weeks, ONC Forest Ranger every 5 days. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
