Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: PaperVN at none against Tachimanga's shown. PaperVN also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 76%) and rating (5.0 vs 4.8). Tachimanga's advantage is ratings volume (5.6K vs 2) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 26.0). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Tachimanga sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and PaperVN sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $0.59 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
PaperVN holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Tachimanga has 5.6K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 76% of Tachimanga's written reviews are positive against 100% of PaperVN's.
Tachimanga ships an update every 3 weeks, PaperVN weekly. The most recent releases landed on November 8, 2026 and November 6, 2026 respectively.
