Requires an Apple Music subscription. RowBeat builds a mixtape for your row: a playlist from Apple Music where every song's beat lands on the stroke rate you choose. Set the rate, pick the sound, and row to music you love. Almost no music is written at rowing speed, so nobody takes a stroke on every beat. A 100 BPM song is a 25 SPM row: one stroke every four beats. RowBeat does that arithmetic for the whole catalog. Every track shows its stroke rate and the math behind it ("100 BPM ÷4"). AN ALBUM COVER FOR EVERY ROW Every workout you build gets a cover drawn from its songs: one bar per track, as tall as its stroke rate, in the color of the main genre. A pyramid looks like a pyramid. The home screen keeps your last one so you can row it again, and offers the remix: same genres and stroke rate, new songs. THREE TAPS TO A WORKOUT 1. Set the row. A stroke rate from 18 to 38 SPM and a length from 5 to 60 minutes. Row straight through, or as intervals with a rest of 15 seconds to 2 minutes between tracks. 2. Pick the sound. Fifteen genres and seven eras, in any combination. Turn on Exclude explicit tracks once and it stays on. 3. Row it. A ten-second count gets you on the machine before the first beat. Then one big target stroke-rate number, controls you can reach mid-stroke, and a line across the top showing where you are in the row. OR TAP ONCE 'Quick Row' is twenty minutes at 22–30 SPM to a mix of genres picked for the day and named on the card. A 'Genre to Try' offers one you have not rowed to yet, its best-known songs matched to your stroke rate. Surprise me picks two to four genres, shows you what it chose, and builds. SHAPE THE ROW Choose the order your stroke rates arrive in: Climb, Descend, Pyramid, Waves or Shuffle, or drag the list into your own order. Same songs, new shape, and the cover redraws. Tap a cover to hear a 30-second preview. Swap one track for another at the same stroke rate, or swap the whole lot, without rebuilding. SWAP A SONG MID-ROW If a song's beat isn't landing, tap the swap button on the player and RowBeat plays another at about the same stroke rate. A song you swap away stays out of later playlists until you clear the list in Settings. FRESH PLAYLISTS Anything you rowed to in the last month sits out of your next playlist. Make that one week, two weeks or three months in Settings. CONCEPT2 ROWERG AND SKIERG, IF YOU HAVE ONE Connect a Concept2 PM5 over Bluetooth and the player shows what the monitor shows: time, distance, your actual stroke rate beside the target, and both 500 m splits, read straight off the PM5. RowBeat can also offer the swap itself when a song's beat has not been landing for most of a minute. The SkiErg works too; ski stroke rates run a little higher, so set the range to suit. NEW TO ROWING TO MUSIC? Rhythm Rowing, a short tutorial in the app, teaches the 1-2-3-4 count with an animated rower and an optional buzz on the beat. The beat is the finish, when the handle reaches your chest. A NEW LOOK RowBeat 1.2 is redrawn from the icon up: a slate dark theme, a paper light one, new type and a new logo. WHAT YOU NEED An iPhone, an Apple Music subscription, and an internet connection. A Concept2 PM5 is optional; a PM3 or PM4 has no Bluetooth. No account, no sign-in, no password. YOUR PRIVACY No leaderboards, no streaks, no personal bests: RowBeat does not count your sessions, rank you or nag you. No account, no analytics, no ads, no tracking. Your settings, your play history (kept up to three months), the songs you swapped away, your last playlist and the genres you have rowed stay on your iPhone; Clear history forgets them and deleting the app deletes them.
