KanjiBoard

Learn kanji by writing them. KanjiBoard gives you a quiet drawing space, stroke-order animations and feedback on your handwriting. Start with JLPT N5 and work through N1, or choose Jōyō, Jinmeiyō or the full catalog of more than 6,400 kanji. Review completed kanji with spaced repetition, a daily goal or unlimited practice. Set repetitions and drawing guides separately for learning and review. Tap a reading to explore meanings, on and kun readings, name readings, vocabulary and example sentences in the bundled dictionary. Draw an unfamiliar kanji to find close matches. Practice and dictionary lookup work offline. You can also download a Japanese handwriting model for on-device recognition. Choose tracing, a practice grid and a stroke counter. Use portrait or landscape with left- and right-handed layouts. Optional sounds mark completed cycles and perfect scores without tracing. Export your learning progress and settings to a .kanjiboard backup, or import a backup through Files. Your handwriting and learning history stay on your device. No account or ads. Every learning feature is free. Optional one-time in-app purchases support development and do not unlock features or require a subscription. Questions or feedback: support.kanjiboard@gmail.com

Verdict
TWA Dictionary and KanjiBoard are too close to call on the numbers: across 5 compared parameters — price, ads, in-app purchases and device support among them — neither pulls far enough ahead to decide it. What separates them is feature set and interface, not measurable difference.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. TWA Dictionary sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month and KanjiBoard sells 6 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
