About

Ringotron

This app offers advanced control over ring modulation effects for sound design and audio processing. Its multi-band design allows precise manipulation of the audio spectrum, with a special soft mode to reduce unwanted intermodulation. It can also function as a resonant filter that smoothly transitions into a ring modulator.

Highlights
  • Parallel ring modulator units
  • Stereo separation control
  • Ultra-narrow band resonance
  • Ribbon controls for frequencies
  • Modulation system for band centers
  • Tempo syncing for oscillators
  • Soft limiter and clipper

Ringotron allows taming the strong transformational effects of traditional ring modulation, opening up a wider range of possibilities in sound design and audio FX. Its multi-band design enables fine control over which parts of the spectrum will be transformed by the effect. A special soft mode is available that borrows concepts from feedback modeling, which can be used to reduce intermodulation effects that are often a limiting factor in the more general applicability of ring modulators. In addition to the layers of control they provide, combination of these core features also allows the plugin to act as a stereo, multi-peak resonant filter that can also smoothly morph into a ring modulator. FEATURES: • 2 parallel ring modulator units (max. modulator frequency: 8 kHz) • Stereo separation can be added to band center, mod. frequency, mod. phase • Ultra-narrow bands can be used to create highly resonant sounds • 4 large ribbon controls for band center and modulator frequencies • Band center frequencies can be modulated by the built-in modulation system • Tempo syncing can be independently configured for each oscillator • Built-in soft limiter and clipper to protect against volume spikes IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The plugin comes with a zero-latency, non-brickwall soft limiter, and as such, its stopping power is limited. Make sure to always leave enough headroom or use an external brickwall limiter for total protection against powerful transients. Alternatively, a built-in soft clipper is also available. PLEASE NOTE: • AUv3-compatible host app is required • Suported sampling rates: 44.1, 48, 96 kHz

Four complementary distortion algorithms — Saturation, BitCrush, Ring Modulation, and Downsampling — blended and shaped through an intuitive XY pad. Saturation Shape harmonics using Quantum Distortion’s custom waveshaping saturation. Adjust Drive to set the intensity from subtle warmth to strong coloration, and use Asymmetry to introduce controlled even-harmonic emphasis of vintage tube characteristics. BitCrush Reduce digital resolution using BitCrush and reshape the crushed signal with BitWarp, which bends the quantization curve for additional tonal variation. This combination allows precise control over both the amount of reduction and the character of the resulting digital artifacts. Ring Modulation Introduce inharmonic motion using ring modulation, generated by multiplying the input with a tunable oscillator. Adjust frequency and amount in real time to create anything from light metallic shading to dense, shifting sidebands. Downsampling Lower the sample rate using Downsampling, reducing temporal resolution for classic digital degradation effects. Set the rate down to 200 Hz or introduce Jitter for controlled randomness, adding instability and movement to the downsampled signal. XY Pad Blending Navigate between the four distortion algorithms using the XY pad, allowing smooth transitions or static blends across the processing modes. The background updates to reflect the current region, providing clear visual feedback while exploring hybrid distortion shapes and interactions. Quantum Distortion is an AUv3 audio effect plugin compatible with Logic Pro, AUM, Cubasis, GarageBand and many more. A Desktop version is also available for Windows and macOS (VST3 / AU / AAX).
