Sensus is a system for mobile sensing. While it is running, Sensus monitors various types of information flowing through the device, interacts with the user to solicit information, and coordinates the collection, anonymization, and storage of this information locally as well as remotely. Sensus has been designed and implemented for use in research advancing public health and public safety. However, Sensus is a general-purpose system. Researchers in other fields, industrial companies, and individuals interested in self-monitoring might find it useful. By default, Sensus will not collect, store, or upload any information from the device on which it is running. Sensus must be configured by the device owner in order for it do these things. Thus, as shipped, the Sensus app does not pose any privacy risks. If you participate in Sensus studies, you will be presented with a detailed description of the data to be collected.
