Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Trópiko at 5.0 against Meson's 1.9. Trópiko also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 3 months) and monetization model (ad-supported vs free with in-app purchases). Meson's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (45 vs 1). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Trópiko holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 1.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Meson has 45 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Meson ships an update every 3 months, Trópiko fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
