A classic dungeon crawl told in green text on a black screen — and a Dungeon Master that actually answers you. Build a party of up to six heroes (four is the classic table) from ten classes and a dozen peoples, take up a quest from someone who badly needs you, and go down. Every dungeon is made fresh: rooms, traps, locked doors, shrines, libraries, merchants, gyms, teleport pads, and a guardian on every floor between you and the thing at the bottom that started it all. PLAY IT YOUR WAY • Tap buttons and the D-pad, or switch to Text Mode and just type what you want to do — "search the altar", "ask the hermit about the key", "@mol climb the wall". • Speak instead of typing: press the microphone once and give commands one after another. • Turn on Read Aloud and the DM narrates everything, with different voices for your companions. A DUNGEON MASTER THAT TALKS BACK • The DM describes rooms, plays everyone you meet, answers questions, and remembers who told you what. • On devices with Apple Intelligence it runs entirely on the device — nothing leaves your phone. Or choose a cloud AI with your own key: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or Hugging Face with a free monthly allowance — and pick which model tells your story. Without any of them, the built-in DM runs the whole game. • A content-safety tool lets you wipe any response and steer the story somewhere gentler, any time, no questions asked. REAL RULES, READABLE DICE • 5e-style ability scores, classes, spells, spell slots, saving throws and critical hits, with every roll shown. • Turn-based fights where robot companions take their own turns, combat help that works out each hero's real chances against this enemy, and the DM telling the fight back as a story. • Poison that lasts until you cure it, merchants who charge what they think they can get away with, and riddles and puzzles as a way past a fight. MORE TO FIND • Quests with real deadlines, told in days, and clues you gather floor by floor. • Certificates for your deeds, a Hall of Fame, and a full adventure log you can read back. • Replay Fight lets you watch a battle again. • An Atlas of every floor you've mapped, and a little magick when you're stuck. MADE FOR EVERYONE • Built for VoiceOver: screens are read as a few clear sections, every button is named, the room you're in is said first, and animations stop while VoiceOver is on. • Adjustable text size, left- or right-handed layout, reduced animations, pausable timers, and help on every screen. Plays on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Vision Pro. NOT A WIZARDS OF THE COAST PRODUCT DnD RPG is an independent game made by Timbaloo Ltd. Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: DnD RPG at none against Fox Fire's 7. DnD RPG also leads on ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (80% vs 70%). Fox Fire's advantage is update cadence (every 4 days vs every 4 months) and rating (4.4 vs 4.0). On price, ratings volume, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Fox Fire sells 7 one-off in-app purchases. DnD RPG asks for nothing beyond the download.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Fox Fire holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 4.0. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 9 and 9 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 70% of Fox Fire's written reviews are positive against 80% of DnD RPG's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Fox Fire ships an update every 4 days, DnD RPG every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
