Verdict
Booktok and Y/n both sit at 4.6 stars, but that hides the real split: 61% of Y/n's written reviews are positive against 16% of Booktok's. Y/n also leads on monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and chart position (#15 vs unranked). Booktok's advantage is ratings volume (33K vs 5.9K). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Booktok sells 16 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days and Y/n sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for Booktok against 4.5 for Y/n. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Booktok has 33K ratings behind it against 5.9K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 16% of Booktok's written reviews are positive against 61% of Y/n's.
Booktok ships an update every 8 days, Y/n every 2 weeks. Both last shipped on November 1, 2026.
