Ponchorado is a satirical Wild West survival-action game with roguelite elements, set in the 1930s cartoon style — taking place in the ruins of a never-finished western movie. Play as Poncho, a forgotten stuntman fighting his way through chaos, clichés, and caricatures in a desperate attempt to finally be seen — and maybe even win the BOSSCAR, the highest honor of the fictional Academy of Cinematic Constructs. But the prize is more than just a symbol of fame — it represents visibility, recognition, and the right to tell your own story. As Poncho, a never-credited side character, you’ll battle your way through a fragmented film world full of bizarre gatekeepers, lost scenes, and unleashed characters — all fighting for their place in a movie that was never finished. Your goal: Defeat all ten “Gatekeeper Bosses” to nominate yourself for the BOSSCAR — and maybe, at last, rise from forgotten extra to true leading role.

Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Crunchyroll at none against Ponchorado's shown. Ponchorado's advantage is rating (4.2 vs 4.0). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and update cadence there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Ponchorado sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and Crunchyroll sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $13.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Ponchorado holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 4.0. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 78 and 45 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 56% of Ponchorado's written reviews are positive against 58% of Crunchyroll's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Ponchorado ships an update every 3 weeks, Crunchyroll monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
